Compared to a week ago when I knew I shouldn't run Compared to a week ago when I knew I shouldn't run, this weeks Tuesday run went pretty well. 

10k non stop around Norton Common. Longest non stop run for a year. As always now, ran to enjoy. Didn't aim for any distance until I'd got to 5.5 then aimed for 6.21 or the 10k. Would have just as happily done 3 and walked another couple.

First long run in ages and thoroughly enjoyed it. First long run in ages and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ran 0.75, walked 0.25 from the start and ignored any stats other than heart rate. Took Photos and chatted with farmers.

Who knew? I saw a post of someone counting the day Who knew? I saw a post of someone counting the days since their last drink and I knew it was over 9 years but thought I'd see how many it was for me.

 I don't normally count the days or even the years, I only recently worked it which year I stopped drinking. But I couldn't let this number pass.

I stopped when I became a PT full time, I didn't have a problem and I wasn't pregnant. Getting up at 5 am daily though didn't go well with drinking the night before so I stopped. 

I did enjoy having a drink, but I enjoyed feeling better all the time a lot more it has to be said.

Despite planning a walk, I went for a run. It was Despite planning a walk, I went for a run. It was terrible. I sound have known, new running regime, 4 days on the trot is not advisable, especially after a hard session yesterday. 

Still, the overriding goal of my return to running is to enjoy it.....So I did. My heart rate and legs told me during the first 2 miles that this was silly so I just stopped running, walked a mile and called it quits. A lovely evening and lesson learnt/remembered. 

I actually enjoyed the process of 'failure' because I know exactly why, what to do about it and why it wasn't a big deal. 

Whilst I currently have the fitness of a relative beginner my experience means I can enjoy it all. It's so easy when you start progressing at running, or anything, to move from enjoying the thing itself, to defining your enjoyment by arbitrary measures of success. 

I want to run, I want to get back to ultras, I'm going to enjoy it. Embracing all aspects of that process is key to me.

If you're not enjoying it, or can't find a way to enjoy it, sooner or later motivation will diminish rapidly.
